Light is energy. Vision harnesses light energy to show us the world. Light also stimulates growth. That's why the capital campaign for UC Irvine's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute is named "Shine the Light."
The Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, part of the UC Irvine School of Medicine, is creating a new model for an academic eye center: one that offers today's patients the most advanced care; one that teaches the physicians and researchers of tomorrow, and one that collaborates with Orange County's nearly four dozen eye care companies in the development of sight-saving devices, therapies and drugs of the future.
The institute's physicians, surgeons and researchers already are working to restore and protect patients' vision in research facilities on the Irvine campus, at the Refractive Surgery LASIK Center at Gottschalk Medical Plaza in Irvine and at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. However, a great institute needs a central home where collaboration and cooperation are nurtured every day.
The goal of the Shine-the-Light campaign is to build that home—a world-class center for advanced vision research, physician training and integrated patient care—on the university campus in Irvine. You can support its development with an individual, foundation or corporate gift sponsorship for:
